Clos Lucé Manor

  • distance: around 35km

Clos Lucé Manor (which used to be known as Le Cloux or Le Clos) is a located on the heights of Amboise overlooking the Loire Valley.  It was here that Leonardo da Vinci, at the invitation of François I, spent his last years—from 1516 to his death, May 2, 1519.

Legend has it that an underground tunnel linked the manor and Amboise Castle so that the king could discreetly visit the great scientist when he wanted.  The manor was listed in the Mérimée inventory has the Home of Leonardo da Vinci in 1862.
